Mel
Tanzman, Executive Director
I have been the Executive Director of Westchester Disabled On the Move Inc. for almost a year. Prior to coming to WDOMI, I worked for over twelve years for the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association directing a Social Services program and as an advocate around human services issues including Medicaid Personal Care, housing and health care. I also served on the Board of Directors for the Center for Independence of the Disabled in New York. I have a Masters degree in Social Work. I am extremely excited about continuing to work with people with disabilities in an organization that respects self determination and independence. I am not only committed to providing quality service to individual consumers, I am also committed to advocating for changes to systems that impact people with disabilities, especially housing, personal assistance and health care. I wear many hats here at WDOMI, but I particularly enjoy working with our consumers, either individually or as part of a group. Unfortunately, my administrative responsibilities don't permit me to be as involved as I would like. On a personal note, I am married with two beautiful children. My daughter has Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis so I am not only a person with a disability but also a parent of a child with a disability. In my "free time" (what's that?), I enjoy singing with the Disabled In Action Singers and cooking. My door is always open. If you have a question, concern, idea or even a complaint, please don't hesitate to call or stop in. |
